SHAPES is expanding
We are delighted to announce that the SHAPES team is expanding! Layla Salter has been writing lots of classroom resources for us over the past twelve months – and she is now officially joining as our Lead Writer!
A bit about Layla:
Layla has been a full-time English teacher since 2014. She started her career while studying for her PhD at the University of Birmingham, where she delivered sessions on the BA English Literature course.
Layla has delivered training for 'Embedding English in Vocational Areas’ and has been instrumental in co-ordinating and developing schemes of work for both GCSE and A Level, with a particular specialism in the 9–1 English Language qualification.
Layla’s interests include creative writing, as well as gender and LGBTQ+ issues. And a quirky fact: she is one of the most capped Wolves Women Football Players in the Club’s history!
Some of Layla’s recent work for SHAPES:
Resources for Waterstones Book of the Month for July: Where the River Runs Gold by Sita Brahmachari (KS2)
The London Eye Pre- and Post-Visit Workshop Resources (KS2)
Resources for Celebrating Difference: A Whole School Approach to LGBT+ Inclusion by Shaun Dellenty (KS2)
Resources for Toffee by Sarah Crossan (KS3)
A word from Layla:
First of all, hello everyone!
This summer I have taken the plunge and embarked upon a full-time career as a freelance writer. This will enable me to dedicate much more time to my role as Lead Writer at SHAPES. To say I am excited is a bit of an understatement. . . there is no doubt that I am going to really miss teaching but I look forward to continuing to create content for the incredible list of SHAPES partners.
Keep your eye out for more resources and classroom ideas coming your way. Wishing you all an awesome summer!
